Purple Albino Mystery Snail
Bring a bit of entertainment and color to your tank. These snails will lay egg clutches that are easy to remove unlike pest snails you can take it out. Myths vs Truths about Mystery Snails this is a great article to read.
Water Parameter Ranges
pH: 7.5 - 8.0
It is vital to keep the pH above 7.0. Acidic water (below 7.0) will actively dissolve the snail's shell, leading to pitting, thinning, and white patches.
GH (General Hardness): 8-18 dGH (150-300 ppm)
High GH ensures there is enough magnesium and calcium in the water column for healthy shell growth.
KH (Carbonate Hardness): 5-15 dKH (90-270 ppm)
A solid KH acts as a buffer to prevent pH swings. If the KH is too low, the pH can crash, which is often fatal for mystery snails.
Key Maintenance Tips
Calcium Supplementation: Even if your GH is high, mystery snails benefit greatly from supplemental calcium. Adding cuttlebone (found in the bird aisle), crushed coral in the filter, or "snail jello or snello" (homemade food with calcium powder) helps prevent shell erosion.
Temperature: While they are flexible, keeping them between 68 °F and 82 °F is standard. Note that higher temperatures increase their metabolism; they will grow faster and be more active but will have a shorter lifespan.
Nitrate Sensitivity: Mystery snails have a high bio load (they eat and poop a lot). Aim to keep nitrates below 20 ppm to avoid lethargy or "mantle collapse."
